In "The MPEG-4 Book," two leaders of the MPEG-4 standards community offer a comprehensive, targeted guide to the MPEG-4 standard--and its use in cutting-edge applications. Fernando Pereira and Touradj Ebrahimi, together with a unique collection of key MPEG experts, demonstrate how MPEG-4 addresses tomorrow's multimedia applications more successfully than any previous standard. They review every element of the standard to offer you a book that covers: Synthetic and natural audio and video object coding, description and synchronizationBIFS--the MPEG-4 language for scene description and interaction The extensible MPEG-4 textual format XMTTransport and delivery of MPEG-4 contentMPEG-J: using Java classes within MPEG-4 contentA complete overview of MPEG-4 Profiles and LevelsVerification tests The authors also walk through the MPEG-4 Systems Reference Software ?offering powerful real-world insights for every product developer, software professional, engineer, and researcher involved with MPEG-4 and state-of-the-art multimedia delivery. MPEG-4 Visual by Iain E. G. Richardson,
MPEG-4 Visual by Iain E. G. Richardson,
Following on from the successful MPEG-2 standard, MPEG-4 Visual is enabling a new wave of multimedia applications from Internet video streaming to mobile video conferencing. The new H.264 Advanced Video Coding standard promises impressive compression performance and is gaining support from developers and manufacturers. The first book to cover H.264 in technical detail, this unique resource takes an application-based approach to the two standards and the coding concepts that underpin them.Presents a practical, step-by-step, guide to the MPEG-4 Visual and H.264 standards for video compression.Introduces the basic concepts of digital video and covers essential background material required for an understanding of both standards.Provides side-by-side performance comparisons of MPEG-4 Visual and H.264 and advice on how to approach and interpret them to ensure conformance.Examines the way that the standards have been shaped and developed, discussing the composition and procedures of the VCEG and MPEG standardisation groups. Focussing on compression tools and profiles for practical multimedia applications, this book decodes the standards, enabling developers, researchers, engineers and students to rapidly get to grips with both H.264 and MPEG-4 Visual.

MPEG-4 - MPEG-4, introduced in late 1998, is the designation for a group of audio and video coding standards and related technology agreed upon by the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). The primary uses for the MPEG-4 standard are web (streaming media) and CD distribution, conversational (videophone), and broadcast television.

H.264/MPEG-4 AVC - H.264, or MPEG-4 Part 10, is a digital video codec standard, which is noted for achieving very high data compression.

MPEG-4 Part 2 - MPEG4 is a suite of standards which has many "part"s, where each part standardizes various entities related to multimedia, like audio, video (part 2 and 10), file formats (part 12, 14 and 15). To know more about various parts and what they mean, please see the entry for MPEG4.

Extensible MPEG-4 Textual Format - The Extensible MPEG-4 Textual Format (XMT) is a high-level, XML-based file format for storing MPEG-4 data in a way suitable for further editing. In contrast, the more common MPEG-4 Part 14 (MP4) format is less flexible and used for distributing finished content.
